Just finished this beautiful little drop leaf table with a refinish to repair some wood-deep water damage from many years ago. This happens when the old Shellac and wax breaks down over time and can no longer protect the wood. It is important to periodically protect your heirloom antique furniture with a Shellac renewal and regular waxing if the piece is being used for plants, plates or candles. We refinished it with an amber Shellac and a hand rubbed wax finish… shes beautiful, and protected, once more!

Well, she’s done… such incredible richness in the historic finish of these old pieces! I found a fire etched brand on the body of the old spinning wheel that read, “Frederic Borduac - St. Hyacinthe”. So I did a little detective work and found an old French advertisement. Very cool… such a beautiful piece of utilitarian history! Bob Manning Kimberly Manning

Today we’re finishing up the assembly on a couple doors we’re building for the John Jay French House Museum in Beaumont, TX (circa 1845). We’re making these exterior doors out of Long Leaf Pine that was reclaimed from a structure that was built in the 1880’s. If you know me, you know I absolutely love working with this lumber, I might even get a bit nostalgic. Looking at the growth rings, you can see that this tree was ENORMOUS, and incredibly hard. This tree was at least 250-300 years old when it was cut, therefore was a sapling near the turn of the 17th century… now, it becomes beautiful replacement doors in the John Jay French House.
