No, the moon doesn’t get bigger. It’s an optical illusion; your Brian makes the moon appear larger because your brain believes the horizon is further away than the apex of the sky therefore when your eyes transmit the image, your brain enlarges the image to compensate for its misconception of relative distance. This picture was taken when everyone saw the moon as a huge disc on the horizon. Pictures aren’t filtered by the brain.
