Hello and thank you for your interest in the Homeless Homes Project. A big thanks for the donations, kind words and encouragement, it feels so good to have such a warm out pouring of support. It is also amazing to see how the internet can bring people from around the world, together in such a short amount of time. I wish I could speak all the languages so I could respond to everyone.
As of now, the homeless homes project is itself homeless. The large donated space at Pacific Pipe was closed do to fire sprinkler issues, forcing me to move everything out and unfortunately having to take many good materials found on the street and paying to dump them. That was a hard pill to swallow! I grabbed what I could and brought it back to my studio so i could finish up the homes that I already had. My space is too small to hold any workshops in or accept any new material donations. I'm looking for a space to work out of in the Oakland California area, if anyone knows of something, please let me know. It can even be a paved lot.
I'll be going to the New York city area for the summer to live in my dumpster home and work on a venue constructed from shipping containers. But, I plan to make some homes for the east coast as well, so if your around Red Hook in Brooklyn, lets start building. I have a large yard to work from and access to tools.
People have inquired about doing workshops in other cities and I think it is a great idea. I have a passport and can travel. I need a work space, tools, a few days to collect materials, a few to put them together and a place to sleep. Food, drink and entertainment is also good! but not always necessary. If you would like to spearhead this, please feel free to do so. Contact me and we can go over the details.
If anyone wants to build there own, it would make me happy. I would love to see a bunch of different versions of garbage homes from around the world. We could start an architectural movement! Upload your images to the web site so as to inspire others to do the same. All you need is some basic construction skills, a bit of creativity and some sturdy items from the trash.
