Be a good neighbor. Don’t buy a house and immediately cut down trees like this. They built the house around it. It was beautiful and healthy. I got a call this morning that this was happening at our former house. I immediately drove over to try to talk the new owner out of it but I was too late. I’d never seen another red maple like it and it was a real cornerstone for the block. It was due to be chopped and chipped but the arborists were kind enough to deliver it to my backyard where I sealed the ends and will be turning it into lumber. It’s in about 20 pieces and the base is over 5 feet across. I’m happy to take storm damaged trees but hate to see what’s left of our ancient neighborhood trees taken down because people don’t think it vibes with their houses. If you think you have a sick or dangerous tree on your property, talk to several professionals first and ask them what can be done to save the tree before taking it down or maybe consider buying a different house! As a homeowner, you’re also a steward of the land. These trees live longer than us and definitely deserve to live more than humans.
