🙌 Volunteers Needed for May 16 Workday!

North Whidbey Hearts & Hammers is inviting neighbors of all ages and skill levels to join us for our Community Workday on May 16. This is a powerful day when people come together to help neighbors stay safe in their homes and strengthen the community we all share.

You don’t need special skills to make a difference. Whether you can paint, rake, clean, carry supplies, help organize, or simply show up with a positive attitude — there’s a place for you on our teams.

We believe the strongest communities are built when neighbors help neighbors. One project. One house. One connection at a time.

📅 Workday: May 16

What happens to your house when you pass away?

Most people don’t think about it, but without the right plan, your loved ones could face some serious financial headaches.

If you have a mortgage, the payments don’t stop. The house must still be paid for, or the bank will foreclose.

If you die without a will, the court decides who inherits your house. It’s called probate, and it can be expensive, stressful, and time-consuming for your family.

Even with a will, probate still happens. The court will follow your wishes, but your family may still deal with delays and legal fees.

I get it—thinking about this stuff isn’t fun.

Mandy and I didn’t set up a trust, but we did take the step of creating a will.

I remember sitting down with an attorney years ago, feeling overwhelmed by all the decisions we had to make. Who would take care of our kids? What happens to our house?

It wasn’t easy, but having a will gave us peace of mind.

It’s not perfect, but it’s better than leaving everything to chance—or to the courts.

If you’ve been putting off estate planning, let me remind you of this: Planning for the future isn’t about you. It’s about protecting the people you care about the most.

Don’t wait until it’s too late.
