Update: SOLD with the help of little floral shop up in Alachua FL called Kellyās Kreations. After meeting the owner I learned that she started an organization called Joshās Place years ago to give the kids in the community a safe place to spend their time and offers support they may not have at home. We could not have been more happy to know the money earned went to such a great outreach program.

I STOLE this desk from Goodwill!!! Ok, not like the five-finger discount youāre thinking but for $3! I walked out of the store that day and squeezed this thing into the trunk of my car and just smiled. In all honesty, it was likely priced at that point because of the STENCH inside. (Ewww)
In my mind this little thing had POTENTIAL and boy was I right! After cleaning it up with a degreaser and sanding it down that paint just absorbed right into the wood. This desk, judging by the joint construction, was built sometime in the late 1800s and was long overdue for some TLC.
Using what I had on hand, it was first painted with the intent of highlighting its worn look by mixing DB Sea Salt with County Chicās Chalk Paint in the color of āLazy Linenā (which is a light beige) for texture. Following this, the second layer Dixie Belleās āDusty Blueā gave it the perfect look. I sanded and scraped down the texture a bit which exposed the wood and hints of beige color underneath.
The smell was washed out after soaking it a 50/50 water:vinegar solution , scrubbing it out, and then letting it soak up some sun rays. Once it dried out it was ready for an adhesive liner and then some of my go-to furniture salve by Wise Owl. They have all kinds of scents in this brand but āwalk in the woodsā is one of my personal faves. The wood was so dry that it just soaked it right up. This stuff is so worth the money!
The chair happened to be one we had around the house which rarely gets used so it was paired up to match. Although, it desparately needed some new cushioning and upholstery so I took a poll and changed the look with some material we had on-hand.
