Wood duplicate. On the right we have a vanity that is made completely of compressed paperboard and thermofoil as the finish to look like faux wood. 0n the left is the wood replacement made from high quality cabinet grade Ash plywood and solid Ash and finished with a significantly better product made to stand the test of time.
This customer installed the paperboard version 7 weeks prior during a bathroom remodel and when the new faucet leaked the paperboard wicked up all the moisture in sight coupled with it being near a steamy shower and it literally became a breeding ground for mold.
By remaking a better version of the vanity the homeowner can reuse the solid surface sink and know it fits the space, shape and decor exactly. Another bonus was the new version was constructed using soft close undermount drawer slides. Theyre cleaner looking, have no pinch points for childrens little finger to get hurt or get grease on and just provide a longer life with premium performance over the life of the cabinet.

Lets talk modifications to existing cabinetry. These wonderful customers reached out because this built-in was existing in their newly purchased home. What they wanted to do was change the library/office feel to more of a sophisticated whiskey bar feel. The clients had gotten 2 other estimates and both contractors recommended tearing out the existing work and starting from scratch. I disagreed. I modify built-ins often. Many times its for a modern flat screen VS an older CRT television, change shelf layouts, or add drawers , trays or doors. Also adding lighting adds a WOW factor . Lighting was the biggest item here. The Face Frame needed to be replaced to allow for the lighting yo be completely hidden. The shelves also needed to be thickened up to hold more weight. Both of these allowed for the shelf layout to be evenly spaced and make the cabinetrys' scale look more proportional. The center section will also have custom Bifold doors to hide a monitor. Lower cabinets received 4 new trays. Then all the new work was painted to match. The changes were dramatic and at 35-40% the cost of new.
