Mercury has fascinated people for thousands of years because it’s the only metal liquid at room temperature, it's highly reflective, dense & heavy, and able to separate into tiny beads.

Ancient civilizations used mercury for medicine, rituals, pigments, and early science.

Mercury was once used in thermometers,
mirrors, hat making, medicines and felt production. Hat makers were exposed to mercury fumes while processing felt. This is where the phrase "made as a hatter" comes from.

By the late 19th and 20th centuries, scientists realized mercury is highly toxic. Exposure can damage the brain, nervous system & kidneys.
Because of the toxicity, mercury use became heavily restricted.

This small ceramic jug likely dates somewhere around the 1890s–1930s. The amber/brown glass helped protect contents from light and gave chemical bottles that classic apothecary look that collectors love today. *For decoration only.

For the last 4 years, you’ve known me as "2 Danes Furniture Refinishing." A name rooted in bringing furniture back to life by painting it. While that part of my business will always remain at the heart of what I do, the business itself has grown into something more.

You may have noticed that I'm no longer just painting furniture. I'm sourcing unique pieces, selling vintage & collected home decor, styling spaces, and curating items that bring character and warmth into a home. The creativity behind the business has evolved beyond one specific service, and I wanted a name that reflected that growth.

So, I’m excited to introduce "2 Danes & Co."

A name that better encompasses everything this business has become. Thoughtfully curated pieces, uniquely custom furniture, & classic home decor. Everything that make a house feel personal. Everything that makes a house a home.

While the name is changing, the heart behind it is not. You can still expect the same attention to detail, intentional sourcing, custom refinishing, and love for beautiful pieces with character and history.

Thank you for being here through every stage of this journey and for supporting a small business as it continues to grow and evolve. I’m so excited for what’s ahead for 2 Danes & Co.
