After over 60 years in business and the 3rd generation of family owners, the company still bears the name Doll Furniture Company. Today, Doll Furniture Company Inc. is a complete furniture refinishing and

antique restoration shop in Normal IL. Doll Furniture Company offers many services from minor repairs to complete furniture restoration to customers through out central Illinois and even coast to coast in the United States. Furniture stripping and furniture repairs, also chair caning and on-site touch-up is available. Antique restoration and furniture refinishing is our specialty. Let us do the hard work of stripping your furniture. Our system is much like a dishwasher, we load the machine with furniture, doors, kitchen cabinets, metal parts, house moulding or any furniture or wood item that has a plywood or veneer that has solid wood under it. Other particle board work needs to be hand stripped which is a service we offer too. We remove the old finish or paint and can sand your items after the furniture stripping process completes. We also offer professional furniture finishing and refinishing, we will custom color match your furniture to the color and finish sheen you like. In our furniture repair shop we can make the repairs to your broken and damaged furniture to restore it back so it is functional again.

Pine trees are one of the fastest growing trees in the world, growing up to 2 foot per year. Comparing this to the average oak tree which grows at a rate of 1 foot per year, it is easy to see how much faster pine wood can be harvested.

When you hear about pine wood, people will tell you it’s a soft wood…which is true, but it's also a fact that the hardest softwood (southern pine) is classed as harder than many hardwoods. Pine sits in the middle of the softwood category because it has very good density which makes it a great choice for making furniture.

The downfall to using pine in furniture is you don’t get the same detail like you get with oak and other hardwoods, but you can find some pine furniture with inlaid carvings. So pine furniture usually looks a bit more primitive and plain than furniture made from hardwoods and as an added bonus pine furniture is also less expensive to purchase than hardwood furniture.

The art of veneering is nearly as old as civilization itself. Exquisitely designed and skillfully crafted pieces of with exotic veneer inlays and plywood components found in the tombs of Pharaohs are testimony to the lasting value of one of nature's most reliable natural resources -- hardwood. This walnut chest of drawers has a very nice burl veneer on the face of each drawer. Having burl veneer makes this chest of drawers much more valuable.

A burl results from a tree undergoing some form of stress. It may be caused by an injury, virus or fungus. Most burls grow beneath the ground, attached to the roots as a type of malignancy that is generally not discovered until the tree dies or falls over. Such burls sometimes appear as groups of bulbous protrusions connected by a system of rope-like roots. Almost all burl wood is covered by bark, even if it is underground. Insect infestation and certain types of mold infestation are the most common causes.
