My friend's wife reached out to me and wanted to make something special for her husband who was about to take a major step in his career.
He was commissioning from enlisted to officer in the Navy. She had this great idea for a super custom cribbage board and wanted to know if I could help bring her vision to life.

Of course I had to say yes! What we settled on was a mini Sea Chest (for my non-Navy folk, it was traditionally the only place a sailor would keep their personal belongings on the ship).

It is made from Walnut and Curly Maple. Hard Waxed for maximum salt protection. Finished inside with black velvet felt for a touch of class deserving of an Officer in the US Navy.

I found a little lidded jar hiding in a piece of Maple Burl wood. This wood local from a tree taken down over 60+years ago in Newport News!

This was the first epic wand I made for a client. It was recently returned to me broken 😞💔. Turns out I failed to make the connection pins long enough to support MMA cage fighting with a dragon 🙄

Regardless, I very happily took the opportunity to strengthen the wand and provide it with some polishing and a new coat of protective oil. It is happily back in the hands of its owner and ready to cast its next spell! 👻

It's been quite here at Wooden Seams over the winter. But Spring is coming and so are the shows! As we prepare the shops for the new year stay tuned to catch us in person!

And I hate changing bandsaw blades ...

Home for Christmas and I was asked to cut the parsley... So naturally I went to the shop to make a tool instead of doing the knife work.

My Woodworking Mentor said: "It would have been faster to use a knife... But then you wouldn't have been able to go to the shop."

I liked it enough that I will be redesigning it and adding it to the official Wooden Seams product lineup next year! Merry Christmas!

The casings are weighted to keep them upright on your desk. The pen fits in the casing and has an O-ring that prevents the ink from drying out. This is the pen you need when you want to make a statement...
