Most mattresses are assembled.

Components move down a line, layered, glued, compressed, and sealed.

Each step is efficient.
Each role is separate.
The person installing the springs never sees the final build.
The person closing the cover doesn’t know what’s inside.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with that.
It’s simply how modern manufacturing works.

But there is another way.

At Vispring, every mattress is built entirely by hand in Plymouth, England.

Not by one person, but by specialists.

One artisan focuses only on nesting vanadium steel springs into calico pockets, arranged carefully in a honeycomb pattern.
Another works exclusively with natural fillings, Shetland wool and horsetail, teasing and layering them by hand to maintain loft and breathability.
Another hand-tufting through the full depth of the mattress, securing every layer without adhesives.
And the side-stitching alone, done entirely by hand, can take 6-8 hours.

In total, a single mattress represents roughly 40 hours of skilled work.

Not rushed. Not automated.
But shaped, step by step, by people who have spent years, sometimes decades, perfecting one part of the craft.

And that changes something.

Because when every layer is placed with intention, the result isn’t just a collection of materials.
