This need takeout door will be open tomorrow, Wednesday 4/22 from 10am-2pm!
We hope to see your beautiful (masked) faces for a coffee, espresso drink, chai, or matcha.
We also have a stoppable window display with lots of goods like ceramics, apothecary, furniture, and your favorite vintage and design finds.

Yiyi Mendoza, who lives and works in Troy, NY, creates ceramics that elevate life. What we touch, use, and surround ourselves with, to her is a choice that is imbued with meaning. Her collection vessels, plates, and bowls, are kept in a soothingly pale palette, but none of her creations’ presence is meant to fade into the background. Yiyi situates her work firmly within a historical and cultural context. “As I produce more work I feel more responsible to create remarkable objects that contribute to this world in a positive way. I contemplate on this because I know that I am creating future artifacts. With these objects I feel I am participating in the evolution of a culture, one that is more connected and expressive through meaningful objects."

Let’s just say, Relationships would not be what it is today without the creative input of dear friend and featured designer Alex Proba.Alex’s brain never stops to question her aesthetic surroundings, while continually dreaming up the most colorful spacial interventions. Of course Relationships centerpiece, the espresso counter, was designed and painted by Alex and we couldn’t love it more.

Founded in 2013 by Alex Proba, Studio Proba is a Portland, Oregon and New York-based multidisciplinary design studio focused on graphic, environmental, and furniture design as well as artwork. Collaborative projects include prismatic wallpaper for Texturae, collage work for Loeffler Randall, and a limited-edition furniture collection with Bower, while her recent solo work includes large-scale in situ painted murals across the United States, as well as her own collection of rugs and ceramics. Layers of geometry, shape, and color combine to push and pull in the optically nervy and always seductive and alluring patterning of Proba’s abstract compositions, including the custom-designed mural that adorns the coffee bar at Relationships, along with a selection from her most recent rug collection.

Jack Rabbit Studio showcases the furniture of Hudson Valley designer Brett Miller. Appearing to mimic other materials at times—stucco and ceramics come to mind—muscular woodwork hosts an array of accents from the pattern and decoration of textile to the immediate physicality and touch of leather. With a deft mix of craftsmanship and humor, Miller's chairs, stools, daybeds, and tables intimate strength and pathos alongside vulnerability and sensuality.

We love that Brett’s Butt Stools are such an integral part of Relationships. We could not imagine the space without them, and are so thankful to how much they have contributed to flesh out the Relationships’ aesthetic.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Relationships is more than a design store and coffee shop. Relationships is and always will be a place to foster just that, relationships.

Starting 2PM today, March 16, we’re temporarily closing our physical doors, in order to help fight the spread of COVID-19. We will keep you updated about re-opening, including for to-go orders, as information arises.

Our digital doors remain open for shopping via our online platforms. Relationships will also continue to be an active part of the community, staying in touch with virtual events, workshops, and further ideas to share during this hiatus.

Don’t despair and keep being productive and active while staying home! Think and help your neighbors and the neediest around you in which ever way is possible. Community is what we need now more than ever!

Dear Relationships Community,

Every day we talk with our friends, community, and neighbors about pretty much everything. That's the sign of a good coffee shop and local workplace. With the current outbreak of COVID-19 and New York City declaring a State of Emergency, we felt it was important to be in touch with you about Relationships' response.

Relationships will remain open with normal business hours and welcome our community into a compassionate place. That being said, the health and safety of our staff and customers is of the utmost priority. Our staff is frequently washing their hands, and working tirelessly on disinfecting all our devices, workstations, and surface areas. And while we love to serve you in our Fiesta Mugs, for the time being, we have switched to using our to-go cups, even for customers staying in to enjoy our seating areas. Instead of metal straws and spoons, we have temporarily switched to wood stirrers and recyclable paper straws. As a further precaution, we have already opened our courtyard, so that you, our customers can continue to have one of the best coffee experiences in the city while feeling safe.

Thank you for your continuing support as this impacts many of our great small businesses, especially the ones in the service industry, gravely. We are all in this together, you are not alone.
