From flat fabric to beautifully shaped flower petals. 🌸

One of the most fascinating parts of our flower-making process is watching a simple piece of fabric take on a whole new dimension.

Using vintage machinery and specially designed metal molds, we apply heat and pressure to carefully shape each petal, creating the curves, texture, and depth that bring our flowers to life.

It's a process that combines old-fashioned machinery with skilled craftsmanship, and one we've been using for generations.

We've been making fabric flowers by hand in New York City's Garment District since 1916. More than 110 years later, we're still doing it right here in NYC!

Take a look at these oversized silk chrysanthemums!

Individually shaped silk petals in a beautiful mix of pinks, reds, corals, and oranges, carefully assembled by hand into these enormous, colorful flowers.

There's something pretty amazing about watching all those individual petals come together into one spectacular bloom.

Turning yesterday's petals into today's flowers! 🌸🌈

Yesterday, we shared a behind-the-scenes look at how we use our pneumatic press to shape these incredibly colorful, hand-dyed silk hydrangea petals. Today, we're showing you what happens next!

Once the petals have been dyed, cut, and shaped, it's time for assembly. Each petal is carefully brought together by hand, gradually transforming all those individual pieces into a beautiful, three-dimensional hydrangea.

One of our favorite things about this particular flower is the incredible mix of colors. Every petal is a little different, and watching them all come together is pretty amazing!

We've been making fabric flowers by hand in NYC since 1916, and while our machinery helps us shape the petals, the actual flower-making still takes a skilled pair of hands.

From flat silk to a beautifully textured hydrangea petal! 🌸

The colors on this one are pretty wild! Each petal starts with silk fabric that we've hand-dyed in our NYC factory.

After cutting the fabric into shape, we place it into a specially shaped metal mold and use our pneumatic press to give it texture, dimension, and a more natural appearance.

The entire transformation happens in just a second!

We've been making fabric flowers in New York City since 1916, using techniques and machinery that have been passed down through generations.

Over 100 years later, there's still something incredibly satisfying about watching a flat piece of silk come to life.

Red roses. A classic for a reason. 🌹❤️

There's something timeless about a beautiful red rose, and we think they're even more special when they're made by hand.

Our roses are crafted from 100% silk, right here in New York City's historic Garment District. Each petal is individually cut, shaped, and embossed using traditional flower-making tools before being carefully assembled into a finished rose.

It's a process that requires patience, skill, and a little bit of artistry. We've been making fabric flowers this way since 1916, and more than a century later, we're still doing it right here in NYC.

Real silk. Handmade in New York. A rose that will never wilt. 🌹

There's something pretty incredible about making flowers today using the same tools and techniques that were used over 100 years ago. 🌸

Here at M&S Schmalberg in New York City's Garment District, we've been making fabric flowers by hand since 1916, and much of the process hasn't changed. In this video, we're working with a beautiful metallic silk fabric. First, we cut the fabric into individual petal shapes using one of our steel dies. Then each piece goes into an antique flower iron, where a combination of heat and pressure transforms the flat fabric into something completely different. All those little veins, curves, and details you see are embossed into the fabric in just seconds. No computer, no 3D printer, just a very old piece of machinery and a technique that's been passed down through generations.

It's a process we've repeated millions of times over the years, but there's still something satisfying about watching a flat piece of fabric come out looking like a flower. We're now in our fourth generation of family ownership, and while the fashion industry around us has changed tremendously, we're still here making flowers the old-fashioned way, one petal at a time. ❤️
