Fort Standard’s new collection entitled “Qualities of Material” further explores the experimental dimension of the duo’s process by pushing natural materials beyond conventional limits and applications. The collection investigates the properties of wood, stone and leather by employing specific material characteristics to create structural designs in the context of furniture. History

Having studied Industrial Design together at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, Buntain and Collings became close friends when they were selected to study product design at the Bauhaus University in Weimar Germany for a semester. Graduating in 2008, Buntain and Collings continued to hone their design and furniture making skills before founding Fort Standard in 2011.

It was a pleasure having the opportunity to work with to create this custom Strata Hutch with an integrated desk for a beautiful home on the UWS. The doors up top conceal a television and slide open to position perfectly within the two outer bays so it never appears to be in a temporary state. Our highly customizable Strata Storage pieces are an exciting alternative to the more traditional built-in and can be taken with you when you move. They also assemble quietly on site in a matter of hours, a refreshing alternative to living in a construction zone for weeks.
