In sourcing for our shop's inventory, we seek the unordinary, and refinish it with the finest attention to craft material. Through the use of custom finishes and bold upholstery, w

Standing ashtrays are one of my favorite items to hunt for because they are perfect melding of design and ritual. Once common, they are now more rare, sitting in the same category as decorative s***f boxes, flasks and cigarette cases: domestic relics that are no longer commonly produced. In addition to looking very chic nestled next to an armchair, for me that’s also part of what makes them so rewarding to find. It’s nice to know that there won’t be a dupe-ified eternity modern standing ashtray floating around on the internet in a few weeks (or maybe I should bite my tongue).

Finding and bringing home this 1950s silver and leather standing ashtray by famed Finnish designer Lisa Johansson‑Pape for Orno felt like a particular victory. The design is thoughtful. A hole at the top of the ashtray allows for direct ash-ing into the piece and an interior chamber acts as an ash collecting receptacle. The interior bottom piece unscrews allowing for quick and easy ash emptying. Product details tagged and available to see in person at our showroom.

Finally cataloguing some moments from our sourcing trip a few weeks ago. A highlight was wandering into store in London’s Mayfair neighborhood and seeing a René Lalique frosted glass Du Barry bowl from our collection on display. The bowl had been purchased by someone from the company in New York a few weeks earlier and I figured it was for their corporate office. Such a surprise and delight to see displayed so beautifully!
