Space4Architecture (S4A) is a New York based architectural design studio working across different scales and typologies, from large scale hospitality and residential buildings to houses, interiors and custom furniture. At S4A we take pride on forging close collaborative relationships with our clients to produce spaces that address their specific needs and identities, inspiring and involving them t

hrough the design process, with the ultimate goal of improving the surroundings in which they live and work. The office’s reputation for simplicity and clarity of design strengthens with every project researched and completed, as we believe this to be the essential key to creating good and timeless environments for our clients. S4A’s nonhierarchical approach to design enables the office to create architecture free of stylistic limitations and firmly grounded in context. S4A was founded in 1999 by Michele Busiri-Vici. Together with current principal Clementina Ruggieri they share an academic background from both the US and Europe and more than 20 yrs professional experience in the United States. S4A was recently awarded 1st Prize for the competition “New Auditorium at the Riga Exhibition Center”, Latvia.

All interior walls and volumes are clad in construction grade plywood, giving the house a continuous spatial flow and at the same time creating a strong connection to the surrounding natural landscape.

House on an Island, our recently completed guest house project on Shelter Island, NY.
The roof gently twists from east to west, allowing the house to begin as a two-story volume facing east before transforming into a more intimate single-story space in the kitchen and living area.

This is the result of an exciting design process for our clients. What used to once be a raw industrial storage warehouse has become an intimate and warm residence for a young, creative couple in Brooklyn. Built across three levels, this single family home is now a space that can hold many different versions of life. Work and play, solitude and gatherings, calm and chaos.
