Downtown Irish Club, Inc.

Downtown Irish Club, Inc. Social Club The DownTown Irish Club, Inc is a social organization dedicated to preserving and perpetuating the Irish Identity in the New Orleans.

Celebrating our Irish heritage throughout each and every year since 1977, the DownTown Irish Club maintains that "everyone is Irish for a day", making our membership rich and diverse. Marching from founders Roy Markey, Sr and Edward "Bud" Ripoll's fine establishments in the Bywater to the heart of the French Quarter, we are the only club to march on St. Patrick's Day proper.

Dear members of the New Orleans Downtown Irish Club,
I hope this email finds you well. My name is Aisha Bosnie and I am journalist and documentary researcher from Amsterdam working on a historical documentary series, produced by the production company De Haaien (www.dehaaien.nl), about the historical significance of different ethnic groups in the USA. Through them and their stories we will examine the past and the current state of the United States…the real stories behind the news headlines.
This series is created by two directors Martijn Bleekendaal and Finbarr Wilbrink (Dutch with Irish roots) for the Dutch National broadcaster NPO. For educational purposes we follow the traces of history from South to North, while learning about the past and how the past echoes today. All to inspire our Dutch audience with stories about diversity, resilience and strength.
We will be in New Orleans in October 2023 (on the 6th, 7th and 8th) to learn more about various cultures in New Orleans, like taking a swamp ride with a native tribe, learning about black masking and Mardi Gras traditions, but we cannot forgot about the Irish-American community (people of Irish descent) who have been in New Orleans since the beginning, since 1718, if I remember correctly.

I came across your organization online and read about your parade. Eventhough there is no parade in October I was wondering if there was another event, (small) gathering or location where we are welcome to film with a few who know about their history and the history of their ancestors on the dates mentioned in October.

Here you can find a link with a series about the Irish directed by our Finbarr:

Is it maybe possible to get in contact with you before that time to discuss potential options and possibilities?

That would be amazing! All the best,

Hello All,

With Mardi Gras behind us, we are setting our sights on our annual St Patrick's Day Parade. We have a General Meeting (aka Meet n Greet) scheduled for next Thursday, March 10th, at 7PM at the Ugly Dog Saloon in the Warehouse District. The address is 401 Andrew Higgins Blvd. These get togethers are really valuable for those of you marching for the first time as they provide an opportunity to ask questions about the club/parade in an informal format. However, if you are a returning member, just come and share a pint with us. Significant others are most welcome! This is our last scheduled meeting before the Parade. For anyone who might not have paid their dues yet, please remember dues will increase to $175 if paid day of parade.

See everyone soon!
