These pictures are from the early 1900s at the Stearns Coal and Sawmill Company that operated within the Kentucky hills. These images give us a glimpse into what sawmilling was like in the days before machinery and electricity.

If you are ever in Kentucky, we strongly recommend visiting the Blue Heron Ghost Mine to see how big of a role the coal and sawmill industries have played in our country.

Though they are not still with us, we want to remember the founders and namesake of R&D Hilltop Lumber on this Father's Day.

Our late father, Russell (Mick) Howdyshell, and our late uncle, Dave Howdyshell, founded R&D Hilltop Lumber in 1983.

As we continue to operate the business they founded, we are thankful for the impact they made not only to the business, but to our lives.
