Follow Paramount Wood Co to see three of the rarest woods on Earth become one piece.
We took this material in its raw form and turned it into functional art.
Here is what you are looking at, from least rare to rarest.
First is Tiger Maple, sourced locally here in the Northeast. It carries one of the rarest grain patterns maple can produce, a striking tiger stripe that runs through the wood. We used it for the underside and the legs.
Next is Buckeye Burl, one of our personal favorites. It grows as a burl on the root system of a buckeye tree in Northern California, and it pulls its blues, purples, and grays naturally from the sediment the tree grew around. We combined it with epoxy to create the tambour doors and the top.
And the rarest of all is Ziricote. It comes from only one region on Earth, Central America and the Caribbean, and it is known for a black spiderweb grain pattern that looks almost alien next to any other wood. It is incredibly dense, slow growing, and the trees stay small, which makes it rare and difficult to work with. We used it for the shelves and dividers inside the piece.
