The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will close the
New Bedford-Fairhaven Swing Bridge on Route 6
to vehicle traffic for necessary repairs this weekend.
The Bridge will be CLOSED from 9pm on Friday, May 1,
to 5am on Monday, May 4.

MassDOT will close the New Bedford-Fairhaven Swing Bridge (Route 6) for two weekends in April/May 2026 for repairs, following recent mechanical failures. Closures run from Friday 9 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m. on April 10–13 and May 1–4, with all work finished by May 4, 2026. Local access remains open, but detours are required.

WE WILL BE OPEN NORMAL HOURS!

Key Closure Details:
Weekend 1: Friday, April 10, 9 p.m. – Monday, April 13, 5 a.m.
Weekend 2: Friday, May 1, 9 p.m. – Monday, May 4, 5 a.m.
Impact: Full vehicular closure; local businesses remain open.
Detour: Traffic will be routed via Route 240 north, I-195 west, and Route 140 south to Route 6.
Marine Traffic: Repairs will not affect marine traffic.
Advisory: Follow posted detour signs and expect delays, utilizing Mass511 for real-time updates.

We're baaaaack! Open today! Rte 6 is in great shape on the bridge. MassDOT was out here at 9 this morning tidying up. The parking lot is also in great shape! Our Winter SALE is still going on!
