The shop—it’s happening! If you’re new here, happy to have you! And if you’ve been around for a while, you already know this has been a long time coming.

We’re doing this the right way where it matters—grading, the shell of the building, and electrical are getting handled by pros. And everything else, we’re figuring out 🤓

I work a full-time job, I’m not a contractor, and this is all happening in real time, with real decisions and probably a few questionable ones along the way. I’ll be sharing what it actually costs, what we’d do differently, and everything I wish I knew before starting.

Step one in getting ready for the shop build: installing a new utility pole so we can add a separate panel and run power directly to the shop. Ended up saving a couple thousand by renting a compact loader and tackling it ourselves (with a little help from friends) 💪

This is the original story I shared before naming the individual. I’m reposting it without photos from inside the client’s home, as this has gained more attention, and my goal is simply to protect others in our local community. I may not receive restitution, but I can speak up so others don’t find themselves in the same position.

In a community built on trust, accountability shouldn’t be optional. This isn’t the level of integrity I expected from someone established here.

3 big lessons learned building these walnut vanities:

1. How to make drawer and door fronts with rounded bead edges
2. Double-check your dimensions will fit the sink
3. Then check again

A lot went into these and seeing them installed made every bit worth it 🫶 And don’t get me wrong, prefab has its place! But custom just gives you the exact size you want and the quality to match 😉

It gets me every time! And yes the shed behind me is full of barnwood (and spiders) but I will still be getting more. I think next mosaic will be a double-sided sliding door for my future home 😉
