As today is our last day being open, please accept our heartfelt thanks for playing whatever role you've played in this improbable journey. From the very beginning, it has been a labor of love for everyone on the Royal Circus team. Hopefully you've felt that.

Obviously, this isn't the outcome that any of us was hoping for. But we don't regret having coaxed this brand concept into reality. We're grateful to have been able to share our vision with you and the rest of the world. It needed to be done, and we still believe it was worth doing.

Hope to see you again soon, one way or another. But for now, this is good-bye.

Thanks,

michael & geoffrey

Yes, we really are reaching that point – our big green doors will close after August 31st. Still some great pieces left. At discounts this deep, you might even want to consider getting some of your holiday gift shopping out of the way. It's never too early. You do have at least a bit of closet space, right?

These lights are the real deal. Meaning that they're old, and were designed and built as working tools for the movie industry. Each has been meticulously restored, rebuilt and rewired for home use by our dear friend who happens to have a storied past as an iconic rock album cover photographer. Their rehabilitation is a labor of love, as you will no doubt realize when you see them in person. Complete with period- and manufacturer-correct rolling stand. Difficult to find, and nearly impossible in such immaculate condition.

If you'd been a soldier in the trenches during World War II, you would have experienced plenty of on-duty downtime. One way to pass the hours? Fashioning spent brass mortar casings into useful objects. All of the examples we offer have been hand-selected for beauty and craftsmanship. A unique piece of history, to say the least.

We love these beautiful old jars, which take their name from the distinctive crackled jade-green glaze. These typically date from 1900-1970, and come to us from Shanghai. We're hopeful the mysterious gentleman who sources them for us will continue to send such fine examples our way.

Not to take anything away from the nice hardwood top (it's beautiful), but the legs are the real story here. Ornate, yes. Visually delicate, absolutely. But the entire affair is also quite heavy. Solid cast iron will do that. 36" wide x 71" deep x 30" high

Royal Circus: A Brand is Born

In the beginning, Royal Circus didn’t start out as a conscious plan. Over the three years since the idea spontaneously popped into existence, it’s always felt as though we stumbled onto an idea more or less already complete. A fully-formed thing, patiently waiting to be discovered. A brand. A state of mind. A quirky little world all its own.

In talking with countless friends and potential investors, the best one-sentence description we’ve managed to come up with is this: Imagine if Wes Anderson and Tim Burton teamed up to create a furniture store.

It became clear that Royal Circus provided the answers to a lot of questions that we hadn’t ever asked out loud, but now seem centrally important:

· How can we provide a meaningful antidote to those shallow, race-to-the-bottom retail experiences that have become all too common?
