We lost a great man last week. James’ dad was a lifelong learner - he was always reading and taking on new challenges. Tom was smart, funny, caring and creative. He retired from a career in education before the age of 50. He moved from Virginia to Myrtle Beach and started Challenge Cabinets in 1989. Tom has been retired from Challenge for over 20 years and his absence left James and Jon (and me) some big shoes to fill.
Challenge has come a LONG way since our early days of building thermofoil cabinets and cabinets for gas station poker machines. So much of our successful journey is due to Tom and the values he taught his boys. James and Jon have their dad to thank for instilling in them the importance of true craftsmanship, attention to detail and pride in their work, but most importantly a work ethic unlike any I’ve ever seen. Tom was so proud of his boys and how they transformed and grew his original idea. He loved talking “shop” with the 3 of us - always boring the rest of the family with our never-ending work stories! We love you Paw Paw and will miss you so much.❤️
