Introducing the Southern Pacific B-70-84 Boxcar. These 52'-8" 5574 cu.ft. boxcars were built by PS from 8-10/1979. They featured 8'+8' Youngstown sliding doors, non-terminating ends, and Freight Master cushioning. These cars were distinctive among SP's fleet of boxcars due to their wide rib spacing in comparison to similar cars. These cars could be seen coast-to-coast hauling paper and lumber products to a wide variety of customers. During the rise of the Golden West Service program, some of these cars would be rebuilt, repainted and renumbered into GVSR paint. After Union Pacific's acquisition of SP, these cars were repainted with UP paint but SP mark. The number series started at 253000. As of 2025, these cars can still be seen roaming the rails in their original liveries, or in Golden West and UP paint. They are surely beat and faded, but still going strong.

We are starting with 2 versions for the SP cars. As Delivered and rebuilt with Superior doors.

In addition we are also announcing the Pullman Standard 5344 cu.ft. Double Door Boxcar. The PS 5344 series boxcar began production in the late 70s and finished in 1981. Being built during the incentive per diem (IPD) program allowed for a plethora of different eccentric paint schemes and variants. A missing variant of the line in model form is the double-door version. The double door 5344 variant allowed customers to load commodities like paper and lumber products due to their 16' door openings. These were produced in the 1980s for 2 primary roads: SNCT (Seattle North Coast) and WCTR (White City Terminal Railway). The Seattle North Coast is a great example of the eccentric paint schemes created during the IPD program, while the White City Terminal could've done better. These cars would last in their respective paint schemes up until the late 80s during the fall of the IPD program. Many of these cars would later go to different railroads (including BN and SBD) and potentially be completely repainted (Sierra Pine Limited). Some of these cars can still be seen today, as of 2025, in their original paint schemes, still roaming the rails and delivering lumber and paper to customers across the country.

2 Versions are available for the 5344cuft cars. SNCT and WCTR. More variants coming soon!

Both Double Door Boxcarversions feature thinly printed grab irons, correct PS ladders and catwalks, different door variants based on the prototype, a nicely detailed underframe, and much more. Decals will be available through RailTrain Hobbies for all variants we will be offering.

We have a small number of these cars available at the Amherst show on Saturday only! Due to the coming snowstorm, we will be leaving after the show on Saturday and, unfortunately, not attending the show on Sunday.

As we prep for the upcoming Amherst Show at the Big E in Springfield next weekend, we have a ton of new products to announce! So that they do not get lost in a giant post next weekend with other new products we will begin announcing new products every day up until the show!

The first (of many) is the Bridge Line Design D&H Ilminite Ore Cars!
32050 D&H Ilmenite Ore Car (1947cu.ft.)

Purchase here:
https://3dcentraltrains.com/products/32050-d-h-ilmenite-ore-car-1947cu-ft?_pos=1&_psq=32050&_ss=e&_v=1.0

For each 32050 D&H Ilmenite Ore car sold $5 USD will be donated to the Delaware and Hudson Railway Historical Society.

The Delaware and Hudson Railway Ore Cars used to haul Ilmenite Ore out of the National Lead Mine at Tahawus, NY. This version of the car was built for the D&H by Bethlehem Steel Car in 1965. They were numbered from 100-240. D&H received a second batch in 1966 with a slightly smaller capacity (1844cu.ft.). We will be producing these cars as well as cars that were updated slightly for the Wisconsin Central in the 1990s

For ease of painting, we have printed the exterior slope sheet as a separate part as these were often painted a different color than the body.

We have also included the support bars at the top of the car as separate piece and inserts to produces cars that have had them cut out.

3D Printed Body and detail parts
3D Printed Frame
Screws

Decals are available separately from Highball Graphics.
Item # F-130

These cars had specific Buckeye Cushion Ride 100 Ton Roller Bearing trucks which we have already worked with Plate C Model Prototypes to have produced!

The second car in our new 3D Central "Fleet Builder" Line is also from a new Design Partner! Yuma Car & Foundry!

This new company will focus on earlier rollingstock from the 30's 40's and 50's. The first is a C&O Ventilated Boxcar XV V4-1

Again, this kit is designed on purpose to be a simple build that you can doctor up if you desire. Ladders are ready for grabs and underbody details can be added easily. The idea is to keep the cost down but potential through the roof!

The C&O Ventilated Boxcars can be found here!
