Happy Friday everyone! If you will indulge me, my post today is going to be a love letter to the most important person in my life, my husband Duane. It is his birthday after all, and he deserves to be reminded of how much I love and appreciate him.
Dear Duane,
First of all, Happy Birthday! You have been a part of my story for as long as you haven’t, and what a ride it has been! For almost 29 years, we have never left each other’s side through every blessing and struggle in our life. I honestly could not have dreamed of a better man for myself, and a better father for our children. You are the most hard-working person I know. You are smart, funny, kind, loving, supportive and so creative. These are just a few of the things I love about you.
We definitely do not follow the relationship adage of opposites attract. I think we are too much alike at times. I am not ashamed to admit that we both tend to be glass half empty kind of people, and that is okay because we know who we are. Despite how it all may appear from the outside, life hasn’t been easy for us in some ways. We have had to scrape and claw for everything we have, and we continue that fight every day. It definitely was not because we didn’t try hard enough. It was just because that is where our life’s journey led us. Others may not know, or recognize our struggles, but what matters is that you and I know how hard we have worked to overcome them. I know we have wonderful, as well as difficult days ahead of us, but as long as we are together it will all be okay, I promise.
I don’t believe a marriage exists that is 100% perfect. We have had our disagreements, and challenges along the way, but we have shown up, and continue to choose each other every day. Showing up, and choosing you has never been difficult. I hope you know that through it all, my love has always been true, and I have never doubted your love for me. I feel it every day in your words and actions. We are incredibly blessed in so many ways. We have so much to be grateful for in this life together. You are my best friend, the one I want beside me until the end, the one I want to talk to when I have good news, or bad. The one I want to share everything with no matter how hard it may be. There is not a soul on this earth that knows you like I do, and honestly mine is the only opinion that matters. Lol!
Early on in our relationship, I just knew you were the one, and you are still the one! We were lucky because we found the kind of love that lasts and endures. There is so much comfort and peace in knowing that someone is beside you no matter what. Because I know you are there, ready to take my hand and walk me through it, the challenges have seemed so much easier.
I hope we are blessed with many more birthdays together! This past week has shown us, once again, how fragile, and short life can be. So many people have been taken too soon. When I leave this earth having loved you, that is enough. Nothing else matters because your love has been the greatest gift in my life.
I am excited to celebrate your birthday tonight with you and the kids! Now we just need a bonfire, new chicken coop, a great meal, and chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting.I love you!!!
