The Sewing Room and Workshop is OPEN! For the past year we have suspended taking new upholstery contracts because Michelle had contracted Lyme disease. The pain level increased so drastically that upholstery productivity stopped completely and all her strength was depleted as well. Lyme disease is different for everyone, and it is difficult to resolve especially once it becomes chronic.
Prior to Lyme, we had many contracts for upholstery work on our waiting list, up to 12 months before the projects could be started. Once we couldn't do the physical work, our wait list got longer and we lost several of our projects as a result. This was a huge financial hit for us but fortunately Ken had jumped in to provide our customers with chair caneing service! He's been very busy on weekends, where he can work from home and sometimes here at the shop, all while maintaining his full time job. Although Ken is not an upholsterer, he can help Michelle by removing old coverings and doing prep work before reupholstery can begin. That is tremendously helpful. When ever there are tasks around the shop or heavy lifting to be done, Ken is there to do it! That's good news! In addition to Ken's work, The Sewing Room and Workshop has remained open as a retail fabric and quilt shop. At times even retail sales were difficult to do, but Michelle refused to stay home in bed. We kept our normal business hours with the exception of a few times needed for doctors appointments and things of that sort. Our Quilt Shop department has helped us stay afloat and now plan to stock more new fabrics and notions, making your next visit interesting!
The really good news is that Michelle is getting better! The last two months have seen her pain level decrease and her strength increase. Slowly she is able to complete upholstery contracts that have been promised for over a year. Production is not as speedy as it was prior to Lyme, but it has resumed and we are now accepting new contracts on smaller more manageable projects. We welcome smaller projects such as chairs and ottomans, dining room chair seating, cushion work, valances and pillows to name a few. We can not take larger projects such as recliners, love seats or sofas at this time, and as we continue to recover (no pun intended), we will determine if larger projects can resume. Our wait list is still working on a few past promises and new projects can be added on after those are completed.
We are revising our upholstery policy to take our new limitations into consideration and will provide a copy upon request and with any new upholstery quotes.
Mt.Carroll has been a wonderful community to build our business in and we will continue to be here with your continued support!
I would like to thank all my friends, family and customers for all the prayers and support sent my way during this time. You mean the world to me.
