All right, my dears. This is a blessing for befores and afters. If you’ve ever had a moment where things came undone, big or small, then this is all for you.
“Blessed are you when the shock subsides, when vaguely, you see a line appear that divides before and after.
“You didn’t draw it, and you can barely even make it out.But as surely as minutes add up to hours and days, here you are, forced into a story you never would have written.
“Blessed are you in the tender place of wonder and dread, wondering how to be whole when dreams have disappeared and part of you with them, where mastery, control, determination, bootstrapping, and grit, are consigned to the realm of before (where most of the world lives),in the fever dream that promises infinite choices, unlimited progress, best life now.
“Blessed are we in the after, loudly shouting: is there anybody here?We hear the echo, the shuffle of feet, the murmur of othersasking the same question, together in the knowledgethat we are far beyond what we know.
“Show us a glimmer of possibility in this new constraint, that small truths will be given back to us.We are held.We are safe.We are loved. We are loved. We are loved.
“And best of all: We are not alone.”
Thank you, my loves.

“In the Lakota tradition, a person who is grieving is considered most waken, most holy.

There's a sense that when someone is struck by the sudden lightning of loss, he or she stands on the threshold of the spirit world. The prayers of those who grieve are considered especially strong, and it is proper to ask them for their help.

You might recall what it's like to be with someone who has grieved deeply. The person has no layer of protection, nothing left to defend. The mystery is looking out through that person's eyes. For the time being, he or she has accepted the reality of loss and has stopped clinging to the past or grasping at the future. In the groundless openness of sorrow, there is a wholeness of presence and a deep natural wisdom.”

Friends, the holiday season can be especially brutal and lonely for people who have lost a loved one. While others are celebrating, wrapping presents and making plans for the future, the bereaved parent/person is struggling to breath and make sense of their experience.
St Marks Episcopal Church, offers an evening of solace and unity. We call it Blue Christmas.
The space is warmed with the glow of hundreds of candles and gentle violin and cello music. This is a time to gather, to hold space for each other and honor our loved one.
There will be poetry readings from Mary
Oliver, Ram Dass and Richard Rhor. If you are experiencing sadness, fear and uncertainty please join us at 7:00 Wednesday the 20 th at
7:00. You will be welcomed and embraced in understanding and love.
Please share this post with anyone you feel would enjoy this time is solace and comfort. Thank you.

Our Support Group for Grieving Parents on the Palouse was gifted an incredible package of informational material.
We are a small group of parents that meet monthly to navigate the tumultuous journey after the death of a child.
It is our desire and purpose to help other parents deal with this unimaginable loss. No parents ever gazes into the eyes of their precious child and thinks one day they will burying that child.

Willow Center in Lewiston offers an extensive healing program for children who experienced loss.
This can be any kind of human related loss, grandparents, aunts, uncles or extended family members. They meet twice a week. Each group is divided into age appropriate levels.
They have compassionate, caring mentors there to help children.

Children do not process loss and grief as adults tend to. Willow Center can help a child express their emotions and pain in a secure and safe environment.
If you know of any children or parents that might benefit from this resource please call the at 208 791 7192. I’m personally very grateful we have such an organization on the Palouse. 💕
