Spent my Friday/Saturday putting together a frame for a cool art print my wife received for Christmas. Walnut frame and oak splines. Hope everyone has a good week!

It’s been hectic this past couple weeks but wanted to share a little bit of what’s on the chopping block. I was able to find three absolutely incredible sister slabs (two for table top, one for bench) at a few weekends ago and knew right away I had to have them! So begins our personal dining table build.

I’ve been wanting to build myself a table for over a year but was waiting for the right inspiration to hit and this is it!

We’re in the very early stages as I need to build the base first then all three slabs need flattened, fully de-barked, voids filled, inlays set, and then joined and middle filled. But hoping to have this done by Christmas 🤞🏻

Had some other things pop up and pull me away from the shop this week and next but hope to be back swinging for the fences by next weekend. 👊🏻🪵🪑

Got to watch the sun rise and set at Runners Indiana Hardwood today. I got the opportunity to help them unload both their kilns and run all the lumber through their hundred year old Whitney No. 24 double planer. What a beast of a machine.

We dimensioned an incredible amount of Walnut, poplar, ambrosia/spalted/regular maple, hickory, ash, cherry, sassafras, and red oak. I’d say about 85% of the dimensional lumber you see in the last pic is what we processed today!

Thank you Bob and Alex for having me out. I had a great time and learned a lot. Plus, it’s just awesome getting to be around some of the best looking hardwoods to come out of Indiana 😁🪵🪑

Finished product:

Solid 8’ walnut crotch/resin wall-to-wall desk for a client. Lots of firsts on this build but ecstatic with the way it turned out. The legs pictured are not the actual legs for the desk as it will be delivered. I’ll post photos highlighting the custom legs Sean Martin built for the desk in the coming days!

Slab from Runners Indiana Hardwood, crotch filled with EcoPoxy resin and finished with Rubio Monocoat USA ‘Pure’.

Ready to take more orders for custom furniture/hardwood home goods. I can make anything you can dream up!

What a cool feeling. I love this stuff 🪵

Tonight I stripped the forms on the epoxy desk, flipped it over, and checked the result on the top. I have to say, I’m extremely pleased with the outcome. My plan was 99% successful and any of the minor imperfections are easily fixable. I sanded up to 220 and sprayed with water just to get a glimpse of the final finish of the slab. I’m ecstatic with the way this is turning out 😁

We’re cooking with gas now on this walnut desk. Sanded the epoxy to 220 just for the heck of it and wiped it down with water to get an idea of what it was going to look like finished. This is a build that’s going to be hard to let go of!! 🥲
