The cheapest quote feels like a win. Until the countertop arrives.

Here is what low quotes usually leave out. The slab quality. Level 1 stone is priced low for a reason - it has more variation, more repairs, and shorter lifespan. The edge profile. Basic eased edges are included. Anything else gets added later. Sink cutouts and faucet holes. Some companies charge separately for every cutout. Removal of your old countertop. Often not included at all. The template visit. Some budget fabricators skip it entirely and cut from measurements - which is how you end up with gaps.

By the time all of that gets added, the “cheap” quote is often more expensive than the honest one. And that’s before accounting for the cost of fixing poor fabrication or replacing a slab that failed in two years.

A good quote covers the full job - material, template, fabrication, cutouts, edge, removal, and installation. If yours doesn’t, ask what’s missing.

Start with what’s already in the room.Start with what’s already in the room.

Your cabinets, your flooring, your walls are fixed. The countertop has to work with all of them. Pull the undertones first - warm wood floors want a stone with warm movement, cool grey cabinets work best with blue, green, or true white in the stone.

Then decide whether you want the countertop to blend or to lead. Blending means picking something close in tone to your cabinets so the kitchen reads as one thing. Leading means contrast and movement that becomes the focal point. Trying to do both at once is how kitchens end up feeling busy.

Last - always see the full slab before you commit. The sample in your hand is a 4x4 inch piece of a stone that might look completely different across the rest of it.

Two different stones in the same kitchen and it works because someone made a deliberate choice.

The perimeter countertop is a dark honed finish - understated, matte, quiet. The island is Blue Bahia granite - deep navy with bold white movement that catches every light in the room. One anchors, one draws attention. That’s the whole strategy.

White cabinets let both stones speak without competing. The brass pendants and chrome fixtures sit comfortably in between.

A lot happens in those 10 to 14 days and most people have no idea.

After we measure your kitchen, the template goes to our fabrication shop. The slab you chose gets pulled, inspected, and laid out. Our team maps your countertop pieces onto the actual stone - deciding exactly where each cut lands to make sure the veining looks intentional, not accidental.

Then comes the cutting, edge profiling, and polishing. Sink cutouts, faucet holes, any custom details you asked for - all done before the stone ever leaves the shop.

By the time we show up at your door, your countertop is finished. Installation day is usually a few hours, not a full day.

That’s why the lead time exists.
