Golden Age Furniture Restoration

Long ago in a previous century Terry Storhaug founded Old Science Renovation in St. Paul, Minnesota. The year was 1990.

Located in Northeast Minneapolis, we are a small family owned shop offering custom finishing projects and careful, detailed restoration of family heirlooms from generations past. After building his business over ten years years he relocated to 1317 Marshall St. in Northeast Minneapolis across from the historic Grain Belt Brewery. At the same time Don Sellers was starting a restoration business of

his own calling it Golden Age Furniture Restoration. After working out of his garage for a couple of years and studying at the National Institute of Wood Finishing; Don met Terry and they decided to join forces at Old Science. For the next twenty five years Terry and Don and a skilled crew of artisans worked toward perfecting their craft and building up a loyal customer base as the neighborhood around them was evolving into what is now the Minneapolis Arts District home to Art-A-Whirl and a host of creative ventures. Terry and Don are also musicians and during this time formed an acoustic fusion band known as Trio Tipo. By 2016 the block they were on was ripe for development and a choice was made to move to another up and coming Northeast location at 3134 California St. Also by this time Don had trained his grandson, Jacob Mulay, in the art of refinishing. The day to day operations were being turned over to Don and Jacob; it seemed to be a good time to rebrand the company in it’s new location as Golden Age Furniture Restoration. Always seeking new techniques and innovation the company has settled into their new surroundings continuing to produce quality work through the care and meaning they see in each piece.

One of the best parts of being a wood refinishers is when we get to finally apply oil to piece! Check out the difference it makes to the grain of dry wood. It really makes it pop!

Check out these four solid military chairs our team refinished. They where quite a project but all that hard work was worth it! These chairs are a great examples of old character that you just don't get in a lot of new piece's.

Ever heard the term "they don't make them like that anymore"? This is probably one of the best examples the term we've ever seen here at Golden Age! This Walnut table was super wiggly when our customer brought it in but after a quick glue job it was as sturdy as ever.

Being a furniture restoration shop we offer a ton of services! A popular service is the stripping of doors, trim, etc. A lot of homeowners and contractors like to have this done because all they have to do is apply their favorite finish to have beautiful new product!

Our craftsmen just wrapped up this refinish job on this amazing mahogany table! Could you believe that this table was actually built by our customers family? They owned a furniture manufacturing company and this was just one of many pieces they produced.

Being a Heirloom, this chair was originally owned by our customers grandma. Like all heirlooms, the chair has had plenty of use through the families generations and could use some care. Luckily thats what we do here at Golden Age! We where happy to make this chair beautiful again for all the future generations!
