A rare carnival glass vase just broke the world record, selling for $250,000.
A couple bought out a hoarder house to help clean it out and see what could be saved. They run a thrift store, brought everything back, and started pricing items. The vase hit the shelf for $25. Not long after, a customer who knew glass took a closer look and said it might be worth a lot more.
They were pointed to auctioneer Randy Clark at Dexter City Auction Gallery. The moment he saw photos, he knew exactly what it was. A Millersburg Peoples carnival glass vase.
It went to auction, where the winning bidder was Chris Sieverdes, founder of the Millersburg Glass Museum in Ohio. His $250,000 bid took it, and the vase is now on display at the museum. The sale smashed the previous world record of $175,000.
Why the insane price? Extreme rarity, the maker, and the color. Millersburg Glass only operated for a short time in the early 1900s. At the time of the sale, only eight of these vases were known to exist. This one became the ninth. On top of that, itās cobalt blue with heavy iridescence, one of the most desirable combinations in carnival glass.
This wasnāt just an old vase. It was history, rarity, and perfect timing colliding in one piece.
And hereās what really gets me: the person who recognized it didnāt grab it and vanish. They told the owners what they had. That kind of honesty is rare too.
