Senior Briana Coronado designed her capstone collection ‘Vespertine’ to share her story of growing up in a hyper-religious culture that placed many restrictions on what she could wear and how she could represent herself. She employed difficult textiles such as leather, denim and lace to demonstrate her personal style evolution…and our jurors loved where she landed.

Briana began the design program without knowing how to sew — her dedication to practicing her chosen craft is evident through the premium quality of design, details and construction seen in ‘Vespertine’. We wish you could see it all up close; each detail is so thoughtful and sublime!

Each unique look represents a different facet of the female artist!

Junior Sami Schultz received the ‘Fashion-Forward’ award for her sustainable avant-garde look ‘Ocean Paradise’. All materials used were required to be sustainable; the hand-dyed silk goods that now mimic ocean ripples were provided by the grant received in late 2024. The dimensional appliqués representing a coral reef all feature different fabric manipulation techniques for texture. The coordinating hat is also by the designer.

This marvel of colorwork by junior Sami Schultz demonstrates the application of math and engineering in apparel design! It takes much planning and sampling to land the pattern for a complex, multicolor intarsia design like this one…and the matching leg warmers? Chef’s kiss! Hat also by the designer.

Junior Romy Swayne used a narrow color palette and a play on scale to create dynamic print interest for her tiered zero waste sundress. The fabric was printed right here on campus, with all elements combining into a ladylike look that would be right at home strolling the Tuileries in Paris! Hat is also by the designer.
