...Winter returns early to WeatherSnap's coverage area...

With the passage of our most recent arctic cold front, strong westerly winds have led to the initiation of a significant and prolonged lake-effect event, currently affecting regions downwind of every Great Lake. The 18Z NAM put out some ridiculous accum precip totals, through 19Z Wednesday, for the Tughill Plateau and shoreline to points east inland off Erie.

The strongest and most organized band is currently situated with a SW-NE orientation across Lake Erie affecting southern areas of Buffalo, NY and has prompted SPC to issue a Mesoscale discussion ..."CONCERNING...HEAVY SNOW ...A FEW LIGHTNING STRIKES HAVE ALSO BEEN NOTED DURING THE PAST HOUR..."
