South Shore Makerspace

South Shore Makerspace A Makerspace is a place where woodworkers, videographers, robotocists, crafters, jewelers, nerds, geeks and artists of most any specialty can make things.

Welcome to the South Shore Makerspace. In the coming days, weeks, and months, we will be incorporating a Makerspace in the Northwest Indiana area, specifically Michigan City. A Makerspace is a place where woodworkers, metalworkers, videographers, robotocists, crafters, jewelers, nerds, geeks and artists of most any specialty can come and make things. What makes it great is access to things one may

not otherwise have access to, such as woodworking tools, electronics, 3d printers, metalworking tools, CNC machines and more - and interaction with others in the community that have similar passions. And, well, space to do it. Otherwise stated, it's a collective / collaborative workspace where you can work on stuff you want to work on. It's a blend of art and technology that encourages that crossover - and art and technology expose themselves as concepts that really depend on each other, rather than being at polar opposites. It's that interdependence that I think makes this a really attractive concept. A person at a Makerspace could design a sculpture on a computer in CAD, print it out on a 3D printer, go over to the foundry and have it cast in bronze.
