Memphis Eco-Gardening, LLC

Memphis Eco-Gardening, LLC Memphis Eco-Gardening designs and installs landscapes and provides specialty horticultural services. We also refer to other providers when necessary.

We design and install landscapes that are appropriate for and mindful of their surrounding ecosystem. We also perform specialty horticultural services, typically maintenance items a little above the average grass cutting and leaf removal business. (We do not do grass cutting or leaf removal except as part of larger property makeovers that typically start at $400.00). Specialty horticultural servic

es include things like, hand weeding perennial beds, diagnosing problems with plants, and hand pruning shrubs and trees. We also provide some arborist services, like vertical mulching, deep root fertilizing with organics and root aeration.

I am pleased to announce that I am taking advantage of a new opportunity that has presented itself and going to work for Greg Touliatos & Associates as Manager of Urban Earth, beginning June 1. Because of this, I am no longer accepting new projects and am using the month of May to wrap up obligations to current customers. The Touliatos name has been synonymous with excellence in landscape in Memphis for decades and it is a privilege to work for Greg and Carla Touliatos. It is also a privilege to have some of the most amazingly talented and dedicated co-workers in the city. Urban Earth is located at 80 Flicker Street, just East of Hollywood, adjacent to the railroad tracks. It is just West of Chickasaw Gardens, just North of Central, and just South of where Poplar crosses over Union, as it it turns into Walnut Grove. http://www.urbanearthmemphis.com.php53-5.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com/

This saturday will be my first saturday as a part-time employee of Urban Earth, an awesome garden center on Flicker, just west of Chickasaw Gardens, just east of Hollywood, behind the Board of Education. I will be working there every other saturday this year. Please come visit me and buy something to support my employer and, by extension, me! ;-) Be there when the doors open at 9am for coffee and snacks. http://urbanearthmemphis.com/

A complete landscape overhaul I am doing on Belleair in midtown Memphis. Unfortunately, because it is winter, it is hard to appreciate what we have done. In fact, about 70 of the plants in the back yard are perennials, like milkweed and hostas, with nothing above the surface in winter. And, of course, deciduous plants, like hydrangeas, just look like sticks. Then too, everything will take 3-5 years to really fill in.

Little Gem magnolias, a dwarf version of magnolias, make for a nice screen, slow growing, topping out at 15-20 feet. I planted these in Cooper-Young just before Christmas.

Using mortared in cut and tumbled stone to border planting beds is my latest obsession. Here, I used a brown/tan stone with a buff mortar.

Making progress. I will be doing a little bit of trimming on the stone today, cleaning off excess mortar, putting one more layer of hydraulic cement on the inside, attaching to the new pump and filter to the green fountain, and then placing the fountain back in the basin. Tomorrow, I will add gravel to the bottom, seal the stone, and add water. More photos tomorrow.
