It’s always a good day when we have orders for custom fireplace mantels.
One cypress and two mesquite pieces have been cut to the requested size, shaped and sanded, and are awaiting their continued beauty treatment in the spray room. Each will receive a clear coating of dull/satin lacquer to bring out their natural colors!

Just completed: Game/Writing table 34”X27”
Variety of Native Texas woods: Cypress legs, pecan stretchers, mesquite top. Durable poly finish.
I took the time to hand-forge hardware that is both decorative and sturdy- you can stand on this little table and it doesn’t wiggle! (If you look closely you can see my boot prints on the table surface from my QC test!)
Please note the amazing free-edge single piece mesquite top: 27” wide is almost unheard-of for this species. I have been saving this slab for years and it finally winked at me with this design idea…

Seams busted, straps torn- time to retire the old apron. I never minded that it looked disreputable (made me look like I know what I’m doing!), but when it falls down around your ankles unexpectedly it is time for the new one…

Thanks Spruce Upholstery for the great job you did on a new style of chair we are producing at The Workshop.
We chose an Edwardian style for the fully-covered version that is a reproduction of a 1930’s British original. Of course, our chairs are made from locally-harvested, highly figured pecan instead of boring old English oak….
You can see both the standard and the “dolled up” versions in our showroom near Medina, TX. Come visit!

Thundering herds of Texases. Texae? Texi?
Texasses just sounds insulting…

Anyway, these are part of a production run of Texas plaques/table decor for small gift sales in the showroom. Cut from odds and ends saved from larger projects over the summer in Pecan, Mesquite, Cypress, Cherry, and Walnut. Available now!

Congratulations to Don Russell of Medina, TX for winning the Woodcraft People's Choice award for his Chairs.

"This is a set of 2 chairs, each made from native Texas cypress and pecan from Bandera County. Way beyond normal scale and shape, these chairs utilize entire slabs that have naturally warped into pleasing curves. Unlike normal (?!) “art” chairs, these are sturdy and comfortable. As a pair, they are a play on scale: the 9’6” Throne makes the occupant seem small, and the 5’8” High Chair makes an adult seem child-sized. Hardware was hand-forged in this shop. The cushions were sewn in a local textile studio. "
