Martinez is the Bay Area’s best, most underestimated towns: our waterfront, hills, trails, parks, Mount Wanda, John Muir, the Carquinez Strait, downtown, wildlife, and 100+ outdoor opportunities within minutes. That's why Thousand Friends of Martinez matters. It helps turn local affection into better elections, open government, parks, waterfront access, smart land use, and a stronger Outdoor Martinez identity. The goal is simple let's protect what can't be replaced, celebrate what makes Martinez special, and invite more people into the work.

Thousand Friends Endorses
Mayor Brianne Zorn
for Reelection in November,
Donates $3000 to her Campaign

This should be a no-brainer - Mayor Brianne Zorn has done an excellent job on the City Council and as Mayor. We’re lucky to have her. Her leadership has been a game changer, her energy is astounding, and somehow she manages to get along with everyone including all four of the other council members. We’ll tell you more in future E-Blasts. She’s having a campaign kickoff on May 28th in Rankin Park starting at 5:30 pm and then will be at our Parks Forum afterward at the VFW Memorial Building, starting at 6:30-7:00 pm.

Considering that Thousand Friends supported Brianne for City Council 6 years ago and urged her to run for mayor 4 years ago, we’re happy to endorse her again early. We recently spent a full meeting discussing issues with her, and we’ll have a campaign forum in the Fall. Filing closes in August and we hope she will be unopposed but we also donated $3000 to her campaign because every campaign has significant filing and start up costs. Please Vote YES for Martinez Mayor Brianne Zorn on November 3, 2026.

The City is pleased to announce that its Pre-Approved Accessory Dwelling Unit (“ADU”) Plans have been updated to reflect the 2025 edition of the California Building Standards Code. These ready-to-use plans, designed by William Wood Architects, streamline the permitting process, saving homeowners on time and design costs. Residents interested in building an ADU are encouraged to explore these updated plans as an efficient path to adding housing on their property. For more information, visit the City’s Pre-Approved ADU Plans webpage at https://www.cityofmartinez.org/departments/planning/accessory-dwelling-units/pre-approved-adu-plans

I helped save the featured property: “Last month, a key patch of land was finally protected that exemplifies how long and complicated that story can be. The nonprofit Save Mount Diablo conveyed 160 acres of Curry Canyon Ranch, plus a contiguous 155-acre perpetual conservation easement, to the East Contra Costa County Conservancy, in exchange for $2.15 million of state and federal funding via a Wildlife Conservation Board grant. The deal was 13 years in the making, and made possible through many partnerships and much wrangling of funding.”

“There’s a story behind each and every property. There are the wins, the losses, there are the struggles,” one conservationist says. “And it’s not over.”
