BrockWood Furniture

BrockWood Furniture Hand crafted furniture made from barnwood. Provenance in the form of Shutterfly Share provided for Every piece.

We're currently working with stock from two local to***co barns so we can provide you with actual pictures of the barn or barns your furniture came from and include your name and the date you bought your piece as provenance. Both of these barns were located in Madison county and were built during the hay day of to***co farming in western North Carolina. Since a to***co barn is designed to air dry

crops it isn't useful for livestock. More and more of our neighbors are finding themselves with useless structures that are falling down and have become a liability to humans and livestock. The field sawn oak, poplar, maple and chestnut used in the construction of these outbuildings is 100 plus years old. Generally speaking if the chestnut is not "wormy" the barn is older. The North American Chestnut was nearly decimated by a blight introduced by Asian chestnut trees which were imported in 1904. When we started finding "wormy" oak and walnut as well I was prompted to do a little extra investigation and found that they were involved in the infestation as well. It's amazing to watch the beautiful grain emerge from the plainer as the old wood is removed.
