I (Andy Gregg) have been riding, racing, fixing, eating, breathing, and sleeping bikes for a very long time.
20 some years ago I set out to design and build bike frames. Soon into that quest, my focus shifted, and out popped a chair made from a pile of used-up bike parts that I had been stockpiling in the attic of the shop where I was working at the time. Evolution of that form has been constant,

and today Bike Furniture Design produces unique and stylish residential and commercial furnishings made primarily from recycled bicycle wheels, frames, and handlebars.

The was the perfect subject to practice off-camera flash photography when I was a student at during some of earliest editions of the event (1991-1994). I made an adventure of it, following the race from the start in Marquette, through the night to the various checkpoints and trail crossings, to the mandatory layover in Escanaba the next day.
Most of my attention was (and is) directed at the canine athletes to the exclusion of the mushers for the most part.
One of my professors questioned my obsession with the subject matter. He may have had a point but sure, ok. Dogs are cool.

If you find yourself in Tulsa at the headquarters for the symposium this weekend, consider taking a breather on one of the two benches we sent for the event. Matching tables are on hand, too. Thanks Nathan McFarren for producing some fine maple bench tops under a tight deadline.

Moto barstool now available with sissy bar and foot peg options.
Customization is endless for this machine. We can build it with just about any brand and model of motorcycle seat, foot pegs, sissy bar, handlebar risers, grips, headlight…
My current tastes favor a round barstool seat, foot ring, tall sissy bar, and no headlight. Your tastes may vary, and I am here for it.

When rang me up (!!) to order 3 barstools in 2011, he told me they would be going into his kitchen in his new residence. When he ordered another one 5 years later, I didn’t know where it was going because ordering didn’t require a phone call. He could simply utilize the e-commerce feature on our new website.
Thanks to a segment on 60 Minutes, I learned that barstool went into his home-studio for to sit on.
BikeFurniture.com has recently been overhauled again to showcase new designs, with the e-commerce feature remaining intact for most items, despite that feature rendering interesting phone calls obsolete.

This recent commission for an ‘office chair’ showcases a motorcycle seat provided by the client.
Constructed from repurposed motorcycle parts, the chair features fork tubes, triple trees, and modified engine guards. The design seeks to reflect the experience of riding (or at least sitting on) a motorcycle, with the reach from the seat to the (highway) footpegs, and the distance between the footpegs mirroring that of an actual motorcycle.
Seat height and reach are adjustable, to allow for fine tuning if desired.
The chair sits next to another seat that is a horse saddle on a stand. Both of them in front of the clients’ desk for his clients’ use.
We can make these with any brand and type of motorcycle.
A note from the happy customer: Your creation has arrived!! Perfect!! Just what I was hoping for and then some. Great job!! Great work!

Old school BMX at the Escanaba track with Matt Marenger and his gifted ’DIG THE FACE FACE’ helmet giving chase to John Duflo. The original Ektachrome slides are stamped July 1983, so it was the last summer I raced BMX before moving on to college and mountain bikes.
The last slide is proof I did not keep the rubber side down on my OM Flyer that day. I see Ben Peterson and Doug Cretins back there amongst the scenesters after their races. Man, we had fun.

A photo of a chair I made 20 years ago has been shared widely over the years, and I saw it posted on no less than 5 Facebook groups over the last 2 days.
A common lament in the comments is that 2 perfectly good race bikes were destroyed for the purpose of making the chair. The truth is the frames had suffered high-speed crashes in Colorado before a friend sent them to me for the purpose of making a chair. Those bikes met their ends when the Serotta didn’t make it across a cattle grate, and the Rossin collided with a deer.
A common term for a frame that is bent in a front-end collision is ‘Stuffed’, and so the model name of these chairs is the ‘Stuffed Chair’.
I’ve made several Stuffed Chairs since the first one 25 years ago (3rd slide). The most recent Stuffed Chairs (last 3 slides) were shipped to a couple months ago for their customer seating area.

When you want to spice up your corporate office, it turns out our Moto Chairs are a good choice. At least a company in the Philippines thought so, which is where our latest batch now reside. MQT 🚛 USSFO 🚢 MNL

Sometimes when not tearing down bikes when playing furniture maker, I go back to my roots to play bike mechanic and build up bikes with jewels from my parts stash. I bought this vintage (80s) Reynolds 531 (I think) Franklin frame when I found it would fit cyclocross tires and went from there.
