Today I’m posting a newly finished commission piece I did for a dear couple. The theme given was “the life cycle of the monarch butterfly” and this one I’m so proud of. It’s done in watercolor on 22x30 inch strathmore cold press paper and framed in a custom metal frame heat treated for color. This piece really holds a special place in my heart and I loved every bit of its making. I feel like I grew in my craft creating this piece. I have always wanted to use watercolor and never been brave enough to try. I am now looking forward to more! Thanks for looking! Feel free to like and share if you’re so inclined and stay tuned for more to come!

A little painting I did from a beautiful reference photo of the Sleeping Ute mountain in Southwest Colorado with the reflection in Totten Lake Resivoir. I loved living near this beautiful and sacred mountain. I watched it often for sunsets and weather. It holds a special place in my heart.

Happy October everyone! I’m excited to say I’m creating again! I took some time off due to health reasons and I’m finally and happily diving back into my art lifeline. I started small to get over feeling like I couldn’t just jump back in. Having fun with watercolors!
I have some more bigger projects in the works so keep watching!! For now, these are “doodles” from our family art club we do once a week. I hope you’re all well and finding whatever joy there is to be had around you!

I've been busy illustrating another children's book, titled "Of the Sun" ☀️ I'm so happy to be creating for an incredible author, Xelena González (All Around Us). She wrote the most beautiful poem! This is page 1 of 26.

"This anthem for Indigenous & First Nations youth celebrates their ancestral connection to the land and unshakable right to belong". It truly touched my heart when I read the manuscript for the first time, and I can't wait to share the rest of the illustrations with you all when the book comes out.

Publication is planned for Fall 2025 💫

"This one is for people of the sun who ancestors cultivated and loved this land (every part of it) long before colonizers brought borders and languages."- Xelena

The “Importance of Being Raven” solo exhibit opens at the Sandra Ainsley Gallery in Toronto, Ontario on November 23rd, 2024 and on view until January 8th, 2025.

Raven is featured in most of the ancient Tlingit stories. For the most part Raven brought order to the world in his actions. He placed the stars, moon and sun in the sky, he shared water with the people and many other things.

In these stories we find metaphors of life experiences reflected within them. But at some point, Raven stopped doing things, or at least our narration of it ceased.

In my new body of work I’m imagining that Raven has come back after sleeping for a long time. He does not recognize the world any longer and sets off on new adventures to discover what is going on now and trying to affect changes that are needed in the world.
