Winter is always the hardest season for small businesses — and this year, our local shops are really feeling it. Quiet streets, slower days, and a lot of incredible businesses doing everything they can to keep their doors open.

If you’ve ever popped into our store, asked a question, tested a stroller, or just felt taken care of — you already know what makes small businesses different.

Now it’s our turn to show up.

Make a stop this weekend. Grab that item you’ve been thinking about. Visit your favorite local spots. Say hi. It truly matters more than you know.

Our HBG community is powerful — and when you choose to shop small, you’re helping real families, real dreams, and real storefronts stay right here in our town.

So important, check on your fave small businesses...guaranteed they are hanging on by a thread. Buy those gift cards, get delivery, visit them, anything and everything does help!!

This winter has been no joke. With another 17.2" of snowfall in Marblehead we've now seen over 60" of snow this year - more than triple what we saw last year. As a result, foot traffic for us has been down over 35% and will probably get worse this week. But we get it. Parking everywhere is a challenge despite the best efforts of the town and the townspeople, and complaining about Mother Nature or Phil the Groundhog isn't going to change anything.

Here's the thing, though: we're not as worried about us as we are for other local businesses. That MHS hoodie needed for the sidelines, the uniform for spring sports, or a cozy pair of Village Ducks flannel PJs can't be ordered from Amazon. We like to believe that most of the business we've missed will soon return for us and we can't wait to see everyone back in the shop!

What does keep us up at night is our neighbors. The coffee shops, the restaurants, the boutiques. You're not going to buy three weeks of coffee when you can finally find a regular parking spot to park to get back into your routine, make up the missed weekly lunch dates that had to be canceled, or go downtown to buy a cool birthday present when you already bought something online.

Spring is coming - we can feel it! When it does — please show up and help keep Marblehead's downtown retail locations thriving! ☀️

Short girl problem you didn’t know existed 😅

These inline double strollers get tall.
Like… I’m 5’2” and I can’t even see over some of them when they’re fully set up.

And that’s the kind of thing you just don’t get from online content.

Because what works on paper doesn’t always work in real life—especially when it comes to your height, your car, your day-to-day.

This is exactly why I always come back to the Donkey.
Side-by-side, lower profile, and I can actually see both kids.

This weekend a family came in and told us something we didn’t expect.

They originally planned to showroom us — come in, try everything, learn from us… and buy online later.

But before their visit they read our blog about small stores disappearing and how showrooming impacts independent retailers. And they said it changed how they thought about the whole experience.

They decided if they were going to use our time, our expertise, and our space… they wanted to support the store that helped them.

That moment meant more than they probably realize.

Small businesses don’t disappear overnight. They disappear slowly, one decision at a time. And they survive the same way — through thoughtful choices from people who understand that service, education, and real human help have value.

We’re so grateful for families who choose to keep places like ours alive. 🤍

Be smart with where you spend your dollars. Community matters.

Saturday = pickup day

Boxes stacked, gear prepped, and so many babies about to change the world (and their parents’ sleep schedules 😉).

This is our favorite kind of busy — helping families get ready for the biggest adventure of their lives.
