As we head back to school and work this week, I’m grateful for the untethered times of summer. Tops on my list was visiting my daughter, Viv, who apprenticed Stony Creek Farmstead in the Catskills. The owner, Kate, instilled in her a deeper respect for animals and the land, and taught that most things worth doing come with challenges. Viv is rising earlier, cooking more, tackling chores without me asking, and trading screen time for walks in the woods. I hope to bring my whole family back to Stony Creek for a weekend re-set in the fall. As a farm guest, it’s more about lounging, eating, and exploring than actual hard labor. But that pace will suit us just fine when we’re back in the grind. Shoot Kate a DM if this sounds like your fall fantasy, as well. She’ll set you up in a cozy tent cabin with a wood burning stove, beds, and bathroom. You can thank me later 😘
