Established in 1927 in Detroit, Public Lumber & Millwork began as a simple lumberyard serving the public at 7 Mile & I-75, where it still stands today.
After being family-owned for decades, the business was acquired by Hani & Zuhair Sarafa in 1976. Following Zuhair’s relocation, Hani and his wife Fadiya, along with their son Craig Sarafa, successfully operated and grew the company until Hani’s passing in July 2011. Later that year, Christa Sarafa stepped into leadership to continue the family legacy.
Nearly a century later, Public Lumber remains proudly Detroit-rooted and family-run.
