We are looking to hire a skilled Upholsterer with auto glass installation knowledge. In this role, you will be responsible for installing upholstery and auto glass to meet the desired specifications. You may also be required to dismantle and rebuild furniture in which the upholstery has been replaced. Other responsibilities include notifying customers of various issues that may affect glass installation, removing damaged glass without causing further damage to customers' vehicles, completing all necessary paperwork, and keeping damaged glass areas moisture-free during repairs. You should also be able to inspect windshields and windows to determine whether the glass should be repaired or replaced.
To ensure success as in this position, you should have in-depth knowledge of modern upholstery techniques, a good eye for detail, the ability to visualize design ideas, and adhere to all health and safety regulations when using hazardous materials. Upholsterer and Auto Glass Technician Responsibilities:
- Dismantling furniture for upholstery preparation.
- Measuring and cutting leather or fabric with the aid of design stencils.
- Installing foam and batting to the furniture framework.
- Installing and repairing furniture webbing and seating springs.
- Stretching out and installing fabric or leather coverings.
- Stitching, gluing, and nailing fabric into place.
- Smoothing out imperfections.
- Conducting quality checks on completed orders.
- Using primer to prime all damaged areas of windshields and car windows.
- Weatherproofing glass by applying a chemical treatment to the outer surfaces and installing rubber weather seals around glass edges.
- Removing moldings, wipers, screws, bolts, and clips before glass installation and repairs and replacing them thereafter.
- Injecting resin into small chips or cracks and heating the damaged areas using a heat source.
- Identifying issues that may affect glass installation, such as rust or vehicle damage.
- Removing all dirt and debris from windshields and windows before beginning repair or weatherproofing treatments.
- Using clips, moldings, and adhesives to affix custom-cut glass to customers’ vehicles.
Upholsterer and Auto Glass Technician Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Proven work experience as an upholsterer and Auto Glass Technician.
- Excellent design skills.
- Detail-oriented.
- Ability to draw and interpret design templates.
- Strong mechanical skills.
- Knowledge of upholstery tools including hot knives, nail guns, and sewing equipment.
- Sound knowledge of automotive glass repair and installation techniques.
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to lift, pull, and manipulate heavy objects.
- Ability to stand, kneel, and walk for up to eight hours a day.
- Effective communication skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
