Shapiro Joyal Studio

Shapiro Joyal Studio California based Shapiro Joyal Studio is an award winning interior and furniture design firm that focuses on providing exceptional product to our clients.

A native of Los Angeles, Leslie graduated from the UCLA Interior Architecture Program and began her path in the design industry working for such talents as architect Frank Israel, interior designer Kerry Joyce, and textile designer Jack Lenor Larsen. When she opened her own design firm in 1994, she found it difficult and frustrating to find furniture that had both the level of quality and visual

she wanted for her projects. At that time, there were not a lot of resources catering to designers that wanted a more minimalist aesthetic. So, she created it. The 407 Furniture showroom was originally opened as a resource for architects and designers like Leslie, that sought furniture that fit the sensibilities of their projects. Unusual at that time, the studio gained a loyal following and began to quietly plant the seeds within the community that locally made, heirloom furniture is an investment worth making.

26 years ago today, this beautiful baby girl made her long awaited appearance in our lives. It was a magical pregnancy, a magical birth and it’s been an amazing journey being her mama. What a day! June 1, 2000.

Happy birthday dear Miro. You’re an absolute treasure. 🎂❤️

From the archives. WHAT A BEAUTY.

Originally designed in 2003, our PASADENA DESK has the ability to quietly transform your space and mood. Gaw I still love this piece.

In 1999, this photo was shot in a formal photography studio downtown. We had to cajole and convince the photographer to allow us this minimal styling, as everything back then was shot at an angle with a plethora of props and decor. I was pregnant and full of moxie. I knew what I wanted to see and was insistent about the direction.

This is my October chair, and it’s shown in solid poplar, another unconventional move. It has no stain and only a few coats of clear poly/oil sealer. TT bench is shown off to the side.

It was published in DWELL magazine (brand new at the time) and really started the conversation of what was to become my studio and branding. I still love this photo.
