• The TWA Hotel: Where Aeronautics and Architecture Awe! If you’ve ever felt like you missed the golden age of travel, this experience might just give you a little taste of the past. Gone are the days when and were commissioned to design the uniforms but this 1961 Eero Saarinen masterpiece takes you back in time when air travel might make you feel dreamy instead of dreadful. The building houses the hotel as well as a gym, a pool, multiple lounges, countless cozy dwellings in addition to four restaurants. My favorite was The Paris Cafe by which offers views of the planes taking off from Terminal 5. is also the only hotel you can access by foot to the gates via Air train and while the rooms are not at the level, they are clean, chic and allow you to watch the planes take off from bed. So next time you find yourself with a long layover or not booking a 4am car to JFK, make a night of it instead. I promise it’s an experience you will enjoy, especially all my architecture aficionados! I just can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get here.
“He wanted to provide a building in which the human being felt uplifted, important and full of anticipation, “ Mrs. Saarinen said. “He wanted to create a space which would be dynamic, rather than static, and would reveal the terminal as a place of movement and transition.”
