This is one of the coolest house remodels we’ve ever had the opportunity to build custom cabinets for.
From the information we’ve been told, this farmhouse homestead was a Sears, Roebuck and Co. kit home dating back to around 1910. The kit was most likely shipped from Chicago by rail to a depot in Protection, Kansas, and then hauled by wagon to the property, sitting about seven miles south of the Kansas border.
One unique feature in this original home is the windows. They are old wood sash windows with a fixed upper section and a lower sash, and they still function, which is pretty remarkable to see.
For this remodel, the homeowner chose a combination that honors the character of the home while bringing it forward in a beautiful way. The natural oak floors ground the space with warmth. The green cabinetry adds a timeless, natural tone, and the island finished in Jacobean brings in rich, deep contrast. The chestnut wood ceiling ties everything together and gives the space a strong, authentic farmhouse presence.
The homeowner provided the hood for the stove, and Brett custom finished the trim and upper molding to tie it in with the rest of the cabinetry.

The overall look feels both traditional and fresh at the same time. It keeps the integrity of the home’s history while creating a space that feels calm, inviting, and lived in.
We’re proud to have helped bring this one back to life.
