The West is packed with national parks, while some of the biggest gaps are found across the Great Plains, Gulf Coast and Northeast.

And yes, the Gateway Arch in St. Louis really is a national park. It was originally established as the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in 1935 and officially became Gateway Arch National Park in 2018. At only about 91 acres, it’s one of the smallest national parks in the country and is protected primarily for its historical significance rather than its natural landscape.

Still feels weird calling it a national park.

$30/HR is NOT enough in today’s economy.

Yeah, I said it.

At $30 an hour, working 40 hours a week, you’re making about $62,400 a year BEFORE taxes.

Here’s the crazy part: the median full-time American worker is now earning about $1,251 a week, or roughly $65,000 annualized. So $30 an hour isn’t some big-time salary anymore. It’s basically around the middle.

Meanwhile, consumer prices are roughly 29% higher than they were at the beginning of 2020.

The median price of a new home was $398,300 in June.

Median gross rent was $1,487 a month in 2024, and the typical renter was already spending 31% of income on housing.

So yeah, $30 an hour can absolutely work depending on where you live, whether you have kids, and how much debt you’re carrying.

But the idea that $30 an hour automatically means you’re “making GOOD money” feels about 10 years out of date.

$30 an hour is increasingly becoming the salary where you can pay the bills, keep the lights on, maybe save a little... and still wonder where the heck all your money went.
