Most damage doesn’t require replacement.

Even intricate inlay work, including chips, cracks, or missing material, can often be repaired with precision, preserving the original design and avoiding unnecessary replacement.

This restoration required careful matching of the original moulding profile, wood tone, and finish to achieve a seamless result.

When the details matter, craftsmanship makes the difference.

These rose panels were a long time in the making, but they're finally finished! I made four, and only one remains available. DM me if interested.

"Marquetry" is the art of making a picture out of wood veneers.

- Each rose contains 36 pieces of wood.
- Each piece was cut by hand with a fret saw.
- Pieces were dipped in hot sand to create the shading, giving the illusion of shadows.
- Hand-applied shellac finish.
- 7" x 11½"
- Dyed wood rose on birdseye maple background with wenge edging.
- Brass wall hangers set into back of panel for vertical or horizontal orientation.

This antique chest of drawers was missing keys, had chipped veneer, and the drawers tipped severely when extended.

A deep dive on eBay, some magic touch-up work, and the addition of some wood kicker strips to support the backs of the drawers solved these issues for our client.

Our niche: Wood. Science. Art. We take a scientific approach to the art of wood touch-ups and repairs.

Testing and documenting a process on a small scale (mixing a custom glaze for a sample) makes it repeatable and scalable (modifying that glaze for an entire kitchen).

This same principle applies on a macro level as well: we've tested and developed a standardized tool kit from which we can perform completely custom work. In theory, this tool kit can then be duplicated as we add field service teams, creating a scalable business model.

Swipe through to see some before-and-after shots from last year's project in Nashville (introduced in our last post).

This project was intense, requiring repairs to high gloss paint, hardware modifications, faux graining, and custom tinted glazes for color toning.

The goal of our work is not merely technical repair, but emotional resolution as well. At the end of this project, the homeowner's peace of mind was restored and the cabinet shop and designer were relieved that all issues had been resolved in the field and that no remakes were required. Mission accomplished.

Crazy finishes? Check. Tough lighting? Check. We had a blast touching up this cabinetry on the outskirts of Philadelphia back in November.

Each project presents its own unique challenges; adapting to and overcoming these challenges in real time is a big part of my love for this work.

This specific project stretched us with the brushstroke painted finish and the stained alder, which liked to change colors from greenish blue to muted brown depending on the lighting.
