Why did I start a business repurposing unwanted items? Glad you asked!
Que flash back sequence...
As far back as I can remember, my Grandmother never wasted a thing. Chalk it up to being born as part of the greatest generation, where The Great Depression and WWII helped to shape her into the little pack rat that she was. I spent much of my childhood with my Grandma and Grandpa Thomas, their values because my values.
As I grew up I took an avid interest in the environment, and how humanity shaped it. I decided at an early age not to waste food water or household items. In a sense Nathan and I were doing what is considered cool now, in 2008. ( Natural products, no paper products save for toilet paper, and a rain barrel in the back yard.)
For a long time Nathan and I were on a strict budget. I chose to save us money by shopping at Goodwill and repurposing items we had laying around ( farm girl ingenuity).
Fast forward 10 years; we are proud foster, and adoptive parents. We have had 25 children in this house in the span of almost three years. We still conform to a strict budget, but for other reasons. We love to take our kids on trips.
I began to notice how much stuff our neighbors discarded as trash. Why in the world would you throw out perfectly good items? Grandma's voice rang in my head " One man's trash is another man's treasure." So I started combing the neighborhood on trash days. I was able to find so many things needed for our children. Toys, laundry baskets, and furniture. These weren't disgusting trash worthy things. All they needed was a bit of cleaning up.
Being a stay at home parent I found that I needed a creative outlet of some sort. I decided to combine my love of painting, rebuilding, and my dislike of waste into a small business. Thus Creeations Furniture was born. Cree, my family nickname and Creation, because each piece I work on becomes my baby.
Have a Blessed day!
